On AI

I'm optimistic about AI, at least for people who build software. Every generation of developers has had to pick up new tools, and the ones who refused got left behind. This is just the latest one.

I picked up the basics before AI was part of my workflow, and I'm glad it happened in that order. Knowing how things work underneath is what lets me spot an answer that sounds right but isn't. When I hit something unfamiliar, I read up on it first, so I know what I'm asking for and can judge what comes back.

The biggest trap I see is volume. Ask for one thing and you'll often get five: another helper, another layer, another file you didn't need. Most of the work now is editing it down to what's actually useful.

So I treat it like a fast, keen collaborator, not an autopilot. It speeds me up, but I still want to understand everything I ship.
